Illustrator's Symbols Panel provides a Replace Symbol command. But it only replaces selected objects on the Artboard which are already Symbol Instances. You can probably think of several situations in which you would like to automatically replace selected normal objects with Symbol Instances. For that matter, it would also be handy to replace all selected objects with any other.
The one script in this "collection" is actually just a spin-off of a function needed in the Faux Halftone script described on the Draw Scripts page. While working on that, it occurred to me that the function could come in handy all by itself. And that got me to thinking about other kinds of object substitutions I might want to script. And that's why this script occupies a separate category all by itself...for now.
To Use: Select one or more objects. Run the script. Symbols are identified by the script according to their arrangement in the Symbols Palette. So, for example, to use the third Symbol from the palette, enter 3 in the prompt dialog.
